Yes, Long COVID and Diaphragm Have a Connection 😵

How can long COVID have so many lingering issues?

According to the CDC, new or ongoing symptoms of long COVID may include:

  • difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • tiredness or fatigue
  • difficulty thinking or concentrating
  • cough
  • chest and/or stomach pain
  • headache
  • heart palpitations
  • joint and/or muscle pain
  • pins and needles
  • diarrhea
  • sleep problems

Many of us know someone who just hasn’t completely bounced back from being sick, especially COVID.

The CDC list of long COVID symptoms is crazy long, seemingly covering every aspect of our being. How can that be?

If you’ve followed our recent posts about pain, coordination, fatigue, and more stemming from improper diaphragm function, this long COVID scenario begins to make sense.

Therefore, it came as no surprise to us to read a recent study sharing new insights on post COVID patients suffering long term effects. The study was from the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab and it shows diaphragm dysfunction as a signature attribute in long COVID sufferers.

What have we seen in post COVID clients?

What’s interesting is they generally felt recovered but wanted help with poor posture or tight shoulders from all the coughing. What else changed as the session progressed really surprised them–restored deep breathing! They didn’t realize how much their breathing had diminished. All from diminished diaphragm function from being sick.

At the Bridging® Institute, we find so many people with diaphragm dysfunction who coincidentally have had a significant respiratory illness–COVID or otherwise. When your diaphragm has been stressed from significant illness, you need a reset to recover more completely.

Bridging® is able to quickly reset the coordination of the core and diaphragm muscles allowing your body to get back to the way it is supposed to work.

Wondering if your recovery would benefit from Bridging®? Drop me a note with some of the specifics. I’ll let you know if, and how we can help.
