24 Years … A Generation of Bridging®!

Celebrating A Generation of Bridging!

March 1st is an anniversary date — 24 years since I set off on a new path combining systems engineering with my passion for being active and strong. Annually it’s a time of reflection, which I want to share with you.

It’s easy to get lost in the day-to-day appointments and long to-do lists. My days are filled with helping people move better by solving mysteries of how the events of their lives impacted their muscles’ ability to support and move them.

Behind the scenes, there are also hours upon hours spent supporting the education of a growing Bridging® professional community. Introductory and Advanced lessons, monthly discussions, workshops, and more. It is a true joy to guide this amazing professional group of people who find Bridging is a great tool to help their clients/patients in a faster, and more meaningful way.

What propels me forward are the stories shared. Over the years I’ve heard the most amazing ways that people’s lives have been impacted by the possibilities that Bridging opened up for them–both from the professional community and from clients.

A Generation of Bridging, and Bridging Stories

The upside of working with all ages is being part of these families’ lives as the parents are now in their 50s and 60s and want help with their own challenges. They are sharing stories of their children whom I met at 4, 5, 6 years old an entire generation ago! Most often we were solving fine-motor, gross-motor, and self-regulation challenges which separated them from their peers.

The same child who struggled with bike-riding and handwriting years ago is now thriving as a young adult in their 20s. It’s so very touching to hear the paths taken ranging from success in the trades to creatives, students to military officers. Each living out their dreams. So touching!

Mind you, none of these kids/families worked with me in a vacuum. There were other professionals, and the parents themselves were a key part of supporting their kids progress. The inflection point in the path occurred when Bridging was added. The kids began to catch-up rather than simply make progress.

I’ve met thousands of families over the years and its really heart warming to hear how a child, their family, and their community have been positively impacted from the Bridging® Technique.

My favorite … the 20-somethings that swear their first stop with their future newborn is the Bridging Institute to make sure the baby’s movement is on track from the get-go.

The Inspiration …

The medical world is so focused on labs, imaging, and codes that the basic importance of how the parts and systems of our body interact is becoming lost. The science medicine is based upon, chemistry, leaves out the importance of the physics of the body. Both are essential.

The amazing stories noted above are the reason I forge ahead trying my best to find ways to increase awareness that the physics really does matter. If anything, my appreciation and awe of what magnificent machines our bodies are grows with each new individual’s mystery to solve.

There is a foundational way the physical structure of the body moves, there are predictable ways that movement is disrupted, and there is a gentle, fast path to resetting this muscle function. I hope in my lifetime imaging technology will finally be able to capture this invisible quality of our being.

My One Wish …

If I had one request, a birthday wish per se …. please share in spreading the word. There is so much more to how we are able to move and recover than the medical world currently recognizes.

All the outreach — the YouTube videos, the newsletters, the SubStack notes, and the LinkedIn posts — is there to help make these concepts more accessible.

What about you?

How long ago did we meet and how has your life been changed by Bridging? Send me an email and let me know; I’d love hearing your Bridging success story.

Two Recent Series about Movement Disruption

In case you’ve missed them …

This year I’ve taken a more structured approach to discussing movement disruptors. For each topic you will find a section discussing:

  • The general relationships and why they may affect you
  • The physics of the body involved. (Yes, this is the engineering!)
  • The difference in how children are affected
  • A tip sharing what you can do yourself when Bridging is not an option

Topics coming this Spring include the hidden effects on movement from Auto Accidents and Cancer Treatments. (Yikes, I need to find something more upbeat to write about!)

body parts impacted by breathing issuesWhy Respiratory Illness Can Impact Movement

A bout of pneumonia, bronchiolitis, or RSV has impacts beyond the infection. The infection leads to systemic coordination shifts in the body which affect your ability to move in predictable ways.

  • The overview of what you notice and how the structures are connected. Read more.
  • The developmental implication to kids who had early respiratory events. Read more.
  • The Physics of how structure and pressure coordination affect breathing and more! Read more.
  • Tips on things you can do yourself. Read more.

forces when falling with a twistWhy Falling Can Leave Lasting Effects on Your Ability to Move

A fall can be unsettling on several fronts. Besides the embarrassment, the questioning about aging decline and ability to do things you enjoy, there is the lingering physical discomfort. Why?

  • What are the layers of physical function disturbed by falling? Read more.
  • What are the physics behind why there are structural effects we don’t see? Read more.
  • The lasting signs that a child is not bouncing back are often not what we expect. Read more.
  • Tips on how to help yourself. Read more.
